Bedford Hockey Club Mens 4th XI 3-0 Southgate Adelaide HC  Mens 2nd XI
A dark, wet and windy afternoon was lightened with an entertaining hockey match.

Yet another week with another fairly closely matched opposition - are there no easy teams in this league!?!  Bedford forgot the habits of most of the beginning of the season and began playing wide hockey using every inch of the show pitch at Bedford Hockey Centre.  Some exciting moves were too often snubbed out by a competent Southgate Adelaide defence.

The 4s have showed plenty of patience this year and this game was no different, getting close to half time at 0-0 a hopeful pass from Tony into the D deflected off of a defender and Josh Olphin snatched the free ball with great aplomb slotting the ball quickly and simply into the goal past the keeper.

In the second half the Southgate Adelaide team began to falter, the numerical advantage we had (they only turned up with 10 players) was clearly having an affect on the mobility of their team.  We managed to get another 2 goals, with 'Goal Machine Moulam' finishing a typical solo goal nicely and Alex Smallwood opening his Bedford account with a spectacular reverse stick effort whilst flying through the air.

Duncan got Team Donkey and even though we're not entirely sure why, the two votes from Adrian (who wasn't even playing or watching) probably helped.  Man of the match went to someone.  I've forgotten who so if anyone can let me know that would be good!

The mens 4ths play in league 6sw. Mark Lawson has stepped down from the 2nd team captain position following promotion to league 2S last season to attempt to lead the 4ths to promotion. The team has some extremely good young players, combined with seasoned veterans, new players and new leadership. The main aim will be to pass on the same approach and tactics used by the 1st and 2nd teams. This will help the younger players to slot straight into the higher teams as they progress. We will aim to be a well drilled team that plays good constructive hockey but we will certainly make sure it is fun for all involved.
