About

Bedford Hockey Club was founded in 1893 and has grown to be one of the largest and most successful clubs in the East with first class facilities.

During the 2010/11 season we will be running 6 mens teams and 5 ladies teams as well as our thriving junior section.

Our mens 1st team play in the East League Premier A Division and will again be aiming to break through into the national league after strong performances in this league in the past few seasons. Our mens 2nds had a great season and won promotion from Div 3SW so they will be looking for a strong season to secure their place up in division 2 this year. Our Mens 3rd XI play in division 6SW with the mens 5th XI join the league again in 9SW, providing a great foundation for young players to move through the club and increase the standard of hockey they play. Our vets also join divison 9SW this season after a dissatisfying season of long distance games and cancellations prompted them to rejon the mainstream league - no doubt they will prove themselves to be tough opposition to beat!

Our Ladies 1st team faced a challenging 2009/10 season in the Midlands Premier League and, despite some strong performances from a talented squad particularly at the end of the season, missed out on promotion back to the National League. They are already working hard to get a good start in the regional league next year. The Ladies 2's and 3's will also hopefully continue to improve as they gain more experience in their competitive leagues, playing in Premier and Division 2 of the 5 Counties league. Ladies 4's and 5's play in Div 6 and 7 respectively and are an excellent platform for introducing junior players to senior hockey in a friendly yet competitive atmosphere.

Feeding the Senior teams is a thriving Junior section which has seen success at all levels in the last year. The work of dedicated coaches means that the juniors section is always improving, not only in the skills of individual players but in linking up with the senior league hockey and expanding the facilities and opportunities available to the youngsters.

The whole club can look forward to playing on our excellent playing surfaces, laid just 3 years ago. The club also currently holds England Hockey Clubs 1st status and we are constantly working to maintain these standards. This is another excellent achievement that will be used as a foundation to build the future of the club.

As a club we also hold many socials throughout the year, building our club spirit and enjoying reflecting on the success we have each week on the pitch. Therefore we have a lot to look forward to over the next few years at the club.
