About

Bedford Hockey Club was founded in 1893 and has grown to be one of the largest and most successful clubs in the East with brand new first class facilities.

During the 2008/09 season we will be running 5 mens teams and 5 ladies teams as well as our thriving junior section.

Our mens 1st team play in the East League Premier A Division and will again be aiming to break through into the national league after strong performances in this league in the past few seasons. After a tough season for player availability our mens 2nds were unfortunately relegated from Div 2SW last season but, with better organisation, they will be looking to bounce straight back up this year. The mens 3rds and 4ths will play in Division 4SW and 5SW respectively and are looking forward to competitive and successful seasons as talented young players move up through the club. Our mens veterans team is also competing in the East league and will no doubt be as competitive and successful as ever.

Our Ladies 1st team faced a challenging 2007/08 season in the National League and, dispite some strong performances from a talented squad, were unfortunately relegated. They are already working hard to get a good start in the regional league and win promotion once again. The Ladies 2's and 3's will also hopefully continue to improve as they gain more experience in their competitive leagues, playing in Premier and Division 2 of the 5 Counties league. After narrowly missing out on promotion in their first season, the Ladies 4s dominated Division 7 in 2007/08 and successfully won promotion and the top place in their league. An influx of talented players of all ages means that we are introducing a Ladies 5th team to Division 7 for 2008/09 season and we wish them every success in their first matches.

Feeding the Senior teams is a thriving Junior section which has seen success at all levels in the last year. The work of dedicated coaches means that the juniors section is always improving, not only in the skills of individual players but in linking up with the senior league hockey and expanding the facilities and opportunities available to the youngsters.

The whole club can look forward to playing on our excellent playing surfaces, laid at the beginning of last season. We remain entirely grateful to those club members who helped out in raising our old pitches during the close season and all those who worked so hard to raise the vast funds required for this development. The club also holds England Hockey Clubs 1st status, another excellent achievement that will be used as a foundation to build the future of the club.

As a club we also hold many socials throughout the year, building our club spirit and enjoying reflecting on the success we have each week on the pitch. Therefore we have a lot to look forward to over the next few years at the club.
