About

Bedford Hockey Club was founded in 1893 and has grown to be one of the largest and most successful clubs in the East with first class facilities. The 2010/11 season was one of the most successful in recent memory for all our teams and we will be looking to maintain these high standards into the new season.

During the 2011/12 season we will be running 7 mens teams and 5 ladies teams as well as our thriving junior section.

Our mens 1st team play in the East League Premier A Division and will again be aiming to break through into the national league after strong performances in this league in the past few seasons. Our mens 2nds had a great season and won promotion from Div 2S so they will be looking for a strong season to secure their place up in division 1 this year. Our Mens 3rd XI play in division 4SW, looking to build on their mid table finish last season. The mens 4's, 5's and Vets will be looking to build on last season's promotions competing in Div 5SW, and Div 8SW. The mens 6th XI join the league in 10SW, providing a great foundation for young players to move through the club and increase the standard of hockey they play.

Our Ladies 1st team have moved to the East region this year and join the Premier League looking to secure promotion to the National League. The Ladies 2's had a competitive season in 5 Counties Prem and will be looking for a top table spot while the Ladies 3's will be trying to consolidate their league win and promotion to Div 1 with a strong performance. The 4s were also division winners in 2010/11 and are excited about the prospect of some competitive matches in Div 5 this year. Our Ladies 5's play in Div 6 and are an excellent platform for introducing junior players to senior hockey in a friendly yet competitive atmosphere.

Feeding the Senior teams is a thriving Junior section which has seen success at all levels in the last year. The work of dedicated coaches means that the juniors section is always improving, not only in the skills of individual players but in linking up with the senior league hockey and expanding the facilities and opportunities available to the youngsters.

Along with the great results we had in the mens and ladies leagues last season, we were also successful in winning the National EHB Mixed Plate. After some great performances throughout the season our mixed squad triumphed with a 3-1 victory against Wisbech Town in the final of this competition.

The whole club can look forward to playing on our excellent playing surfaces, laid just 4 years ago. The club also currently holds England Hockey Clubs 1st status and we are constantly working to maintain these standards. This is another excellent achievement that will be used as a foundation to build the future of the club.

As a club we also hold many socials throughout the year, building our club spirit and enjoying reflecting on the success we have each week on the pitch. Therefore we have a lot to look forward to over the next few years at the club.
