About
Bedford Hockey Club was founded in 1893 and has grown to be one of the largest and
most successful clubs in the East with first class facilities.
During the 2009/10 season we will be running 5 mens teams and 5 ladies teams as
well as our thriving junior section.
Our mens 1st team play in the East League Premier A Division and will again be aiming
to break through into the national league after strong performances in this league
in the past few seasons. Our mens 2nds narrowly missed out on promotion last season
from Div 3SW and they will be looking for promotion to division 2 in the coming
year. Standing in their way may be our mens 3rds, who won Div 4SW emphatically last
season to join the 2's in Div 3SW for the 2009/10 season. The mens 4ths will play
in Division 6SW and are looking forward to competitive and successful seasons as
talented young players move up through the club. Our mens veterans team is also
competing in the East league and will no doubt be as competitive and successful
as ever.
Our Ladies 1st team faced a challenging 2008/09 season back in the Midlands Premier
League and, despite some strong performances from a talented squad particularly
at the end of the season, missed out on promotion back to the National League. They
are already working hard to get a good start in the regional league next year. The
Ladies 2's and 3's will also hopefully continue to improve as they gain more experience
in their competitive leagues, playing in Premier and Division 2 of the 5 Counties
league. Ladies 4's and 5's play in Div 6 and 7 respectively and are an excellent
platform for introducing junior players to senior hockey in a friendly yet competitive
atmosphere.
Feeding the Senior teams is a thriving Junior section which has seen success at
all levels in the last year. The work of dedicated coaches means that the juniors
section is always improving, not only in the skills of individual players but in
linking up with the senior league hockey and expanding the facilities and opportunities
available to the youngsters.
The whole club can look forward to playing on our excellent playing surfaces, laid
just 2 years ago. The club also currently holds England Hockey Clubs 1st status
and we're working to renew this in early 2010, another excellent achievement that
will be used as a foundation to build the future of the club.
As a club we also hold many socials throughout the year, building our club spirit
and enjoying reflecting on the success we have each week on the pitch. Therefore
we have a lot to look forward to over the next few years at the club.
