Bedford Hockey Club Ladies Training will take place on Wednesday evenings from this season, the club has announced.

The move has come after significant increases in the number of players joining in recent years and the desire for all ladies teams to train together on the same evening.

2017/18 season times and dates
Training will resume for the new season on Wednesday 30th August with the 5s/6s and 3s/4s training from 7-830 on a pitch each whilst the ladies 1s and 2s will train from 8-30 until 10pm. Further benefits of the move will include a smoother transition of players between teams, increased coaching provisions whilst a physical selection meeting will also be able to take place to reduce the strain and burden on captains and coaches.

Pre-Season Fitness
The ladies 1st team squad will start fitness training during the first week in July with S+C coach Nick Card whilst stick and ball sessions will follow in early August.
A club fitness session will take place every Wednesday in August (alongside an informal Back to Hockey session on grass). All members of the club plus anyone interested in joining for next season are invited to attend these sessions at Allen Park starting a 7-00pm. In addition; players will be able to participate in “SWEETAS” which will involve teams competing in a virtual running challenge plus a series of weekly fitness exercises designed to improve cardio fitness and core strength. More details will follow from team captains in due course…

Speaking about the new training evening Ladies Club Captain Kate Costin said “It’s been a long-term ambition of the ladies section, to host a main training night involving all teams, so I am delighted that we are able to action that this season with everyone at the club on a Wednesday night. There is a great camaraderie between teams at the club and I am sure this will develop as well as allowing for smoother transitions for players and better communication between teams. With four promotions last season, we can’t wait to get back on the pitch again with the big challenge of retaining our status as a National League club”
