Head Coach Taylor confirms his backroom staff

Recently appointed 1st Team Coach Stefan Taylor has stated his intentions for the upcoming season by announcing a strong support staff to help move Bedford 1st XI forward in to the new season, with David Appleton as Assistant Coach and Indoor Coach, Dan Sims as Team Manager and Nick Card appointed as Fitness Coach.

While David Appleton has been a member of the Bedford 1st team for the last two years, since his move from Holcombe HC; it is understood David Appleton has been given a more hands on role within the coaching team, along with being tasked to maintain the rapid success of Bedford Men’s Indoor Squad. Stefan Taylor commented, “Having someone who has played at the highest level in this country is a huge asset to the club, and it makes perfect sense that we draw upon his vast experience. I am confident that by asking Dave to take a more active role within the coaching set up will enable him to pass on the ideas and mind-set of a national league player”.

Dan Sims has been retained as Team Manager, and will continue his match day role alongside Taylor who said, “I’m very pleased that Dan has decided to stay with us for another year. His experience of being around the first team for the last four years is invaluable, and he has built a strong bond with the squad who all respect and trust him implacably. The team and I can only benefit from his presence on match days”.
Finally, Nick Card – a strength and conditioning coach at Aviva Premiership Rugby Club, Northampton Saints – has joined the coaching team as Fitness Coach, and will be looking to ensure Bedford become one of the fittest clubs in the league. “When I was looking for someone to get the most out of a squad who already take pride on their fitness, Nick immediately stood out. His knowledge in this area, along with injury prevention will be a huge asset for the players!” enthused a bullish Taylor, who is making positive steps to push on from an already strong foundation from previous seasons – and it is already looking like it could be a very exciting year ahead!!
