Martin Mason-McLeod has been announced as the new coach for Bedford Ladies 2’s and 3’s ahead of the new season.

Martin takes over the role from Peter Rattu who had to step down due to an increased work load this upcoming school year. Martin is a familiar face to most at BHC and has been involved in the club in various capacities for over 15 years, most recently as the Men’s 1st team coach last season.

Martin works locally as the Head of Hockey at Bedford Girls School and also coaches in the county set up and as part of the Northwood JRPC having recently undertaken his level 3 coaching certificate so needless to say with all this experience and knowledge of the club, the fit was perfect with this role.

The Ladies 2nd team are one of the highest ranked 2nd teams in the country now playing in the East Div 1N having gained back to back promotions in recent seasons. The team is led this season by Clare Stacey with former captain Cheryll Wilson, expecting her first child. The ladies 2s train alongside the 3’s and they compete in the 5 Counties Prem and again there is a new captain this season in Betty Ingram.

Speaking about the appointment, Kate Costin, Ladies Club Captain said “It’s great to have Martin confirmed as the new L2’s/3’s coach. We already know of his capabilities as a coach and having looked at the fixtures schedule, his availability to support the 2s on a matchday is much more positive than we first anticipated” “I have no doubt that the players will continue to flourish and improve with Martin’s input this season and I know both parties can’t wait to get started!”

With this appointment now confirmed, the ladies coaching team is complete with Paul Livesey working with the Ladies 1st team and Simon Black continuing to run the increasingly popular club session. Expectations are high with fitness sessions well underway and stick and ball soon to commence whilst there have been an exceptionally high number of new players express an interest in joining the club which has allowed us to expand to adding a 6th team which will host weekly friendlies in its inaugural season. Any players looking to join BHC, please do get in touch – we always welcome new players of all age and experience to the club. Email katecostin@btinternet.com in the first instance.
