Bedford Hockey Club are delighted to announce that Tom Hewitt has accepted an offer to become Ladies 1st team head coach.

The ladies coaching set up is now complete with the addition of newly appointed coach Tom Hewitt as plans continue at pace to help the squad compete for promotion back into the national league.

Tom has played hockey since the age of 8 at all levels including international trials and national league spells with both Beeston H.C. and Nottingham H.C. After injuries cut short his playing career, he has more recently worked as a successful coach at both Spalding H.C in Lincolnshire and Northampton Saints. By day Tom is a physio and he is also keen on running, cycling and snowboarding.

It’s an exciting time for the ladies 1st team and the squad have been training hard over the summer – with hopes high for the upcoming season. Ladies captain Rachel Jackson said “It’s great to have Tom on board with us. We think his personality and coaching style will be a great fit with the team we have in place here at Bedford and understandably Tom is as excited about this project as we are”

There have been a few other tweaks in the set up at Bedford over the summer with the 1's and 2's joining forces again and training together (8-30 until 10pm – Tuesday evenings). Martin Mason-McLeod will continue his involvement with the 2’s although there will be a lot more fluidity between the squads and the coaches will be working together closely to create a successful environment. Yvette Van Yperen will captain the 2’s and we are delighted to welcome a number of faces back to the club on the playing side including Bex Howitt, Verity Mason-McLeod, Sherri Skene and Katherine Winger. More new signings to be announced shortly!

To complete our coaching set up, Nick Herceg will lead the club sessions (3-6’s) assisted by Josh Fisher whilst Kate Costin and Joy Leeson will continue to be the main points of contact for the u16 |u18 and the over 35’s | 45’s respectably.
The first pitch session for the 1's and 2's will be on Tuesday 9th August from 8-30 until 10pm with the main club session restarting on the 23rd. Rush Hockey and Fitness in the Park will continue for club members from 7-8pm at Allen Park.
