Sunday 15th October saw BHC U14 travel to Leighton Buzzard - Report by Coaches Josh and Steph.

Tournament Report – U14’s Mixed at Leighton Buzzard – 15th October 2017

3 mixed gender and ability squads from Bedford made the trip over to Leighton Buzzard to play a round robin tournament, this meaning that all Bedford teams would play against each other, fun games there were encouraged! Bedford A’s made a storming start to the afternoon with a 3-0 win over a good Olney side. Goal scorers will be stated below the report. The next round of games involved Bedford A’s drawing 0-0 against eventual runners up Leighton Buzzard A’s, while the Bedford B’s started their afternoon with a storming 4-0 win over Leighton Buzzard B’s. Bedford C’s then had their chance to start their afternoon against Bedford B’s with the B’s coming out 2-0 winners after a very fun and enjoyable game to watch. With their 3rd and 4th matches coming back to back after their first two being back to back the Bedford B’s done amazingly well to secure another 2 wins and two clean sheets against Leighton Buzzard A’s, 1-0, and Olney, 4-0.

While the B’s were winning their 4th game on the bounce the A’s and C’s enjoyed a very tight match against each other with the C’s coming out 2-1 winners. With Bedford B’s enjoying a well-earned break it was time for Bedford A’s and C’s to take centre stage. In their next games both teams drew against tough opposition. A’s drawing 0-0 with Leighton Buzzard B’s and the C’s drawing 1-1 against a well organised Shefford and Sandy team. In the next round of fixtures the A’s and the C’s switched opponents with the C’s drawing 0-0 against Leighton Buzzard B’s and the A’s drawing 1-1 Shefford and Sandy.
With Bedford C’s now moving onto their 4th game on the trot, the demands of the previous games were beginning to show and they unfortunately went down to a 3-0 loss to Leighton Buzzard A’s. Next up was a clash between Bedford A’s and B’s with 1-1 being the final score after some yet again great team play from both sides. This was the Bedford A’s last game and they finished their 6 games on a very respectable 12 points – Points system explained below.

The final matches involved Bedford C’s finishing their campaign with an unfortunate 1-0 loss to Olney. Bedford B’s went into the final game against Shefford and Sandy knowing they needed to play well against the strong side to get the points needed to gain a medal. They did amazingly well with them winning 1-0 and keeping another clean sheet (5/6 for all those statisticians). This was the final game to end what was a great afternoon of Hockey for the Bedford teams with the B’s winning the tournament, with the A’s and C’s coming very close to medals of their own too!
