Hoggett double & Axford MoM performance secures win for Bedford
Bedford welcomed Ipswich to Chester Road for the first game of a significant season in the clubs history. A focused warm up meant the maroon warriors started the game on the front foot, putting the team from Suffolk under strong early pressure.
The fast start paid dividends with a close range goal from Axford in the opening minutes. With a lack of concentration the opposition quickly came back from the resultant push back and won a short corner, scoring from it.
Bedford started to dominate possession and putting Ipswich under consistent pressure which led to a short corner which was scored by Hoggett, drag flicking into the bottom corner. Going in at half time Bedford noticed that their hard work was starting to show, Ipswich were tiring and Bedford looked to press and capitalise. Bedford had a storming start to the second half, winning multiple short corners in quick succession. Lee Hogget capitalised on these corners and put in his 2nd, crashing the ball past the helpless goalkeeper.
Bedford continued to dominate the remainder of the second half, but were unable to take advantage of the many chances that came their way, with the game ending 3-1.
A convincing performance, but Bedford know they must take the chances on offer if they want to make their mark this season.
