Both teams were expecting a fast paced game as the rain resulted in a slick pitch. Bedford started brightly and were harassing Saffron Walden all over the pitch. Saffron Walden struggled to get the ball out as Bedford worked hard to win the ball.
Charlie Axford winning another trademark short corner from cutting onto the players feet, Hoggy stepping up early doors with the keeper stopping the ball but Vinny quick to react slotting in for another early goal start for Bedford.
Bedford maintained their high pressure and intensity, resulting in a plethora of circle entries, unfortunately none were converted due to rushed decision making in the D.
The call come from the defence and the sideline that Bedford need to be calmer on the ball and more aggressive in the press. From that point onwards each player took the responsibility and achieved a higher level controlling the ball round the back and showing real positivity in attack.
The second goal came from Matt Wilson who started the game brightly and was proving to be a thorn in Saffron Walden's side. Rob Turner with a trade mark slide pass from the back picked out Matt at the top of the 23. Matt skipped past 2 players and arrowed a pin point shot into the bottom corner. 2-0 Bedford!
Midway through the second half Bedford continued to dominate possession resulting in Vinny making a darting run across the D before being swiped down, winning a penalty flick which was confidently put away by Lee Hoggett.
As the game came to a close Bedford controlled the game with confidence before finishing the game off with a final goal tapped in by Simba.
It ended as a dominant 4-0 win, but Bedford know that with the opportunities created it could have been much more.
They travel to St Albans, confident with the style of hockey they are producing but know they need to add that clinical edge to their game.
