Bedford 2s claim victory!
Bedford men's 2s make a second half comeback to win 3-2.
With selection being a difficult one this week, with half of the 1s and 2s squad missing, it fell upon the 3s and their cancelled game to provide us with a light in the dark!
Turning up to Blueharts, a team that just got relegated from the division above, with a squad of many 3s or new players, It was difficult to judge how this game would go! Would we rise to the challenge?
The game began slow, with blueharts taking a 1-0 lead within the first 3 or so minutes. A lapse in communication and organisation left a blueharts player free on the top of the D who subsequently scored.
A quick turn in play later on saw Adams pinch the ball in the centre of the pitch, which lead to a Fisher classic reverse stick finish, 1-1.
Blueharts capitalised on a short corner and slotted one in the bottom left, 2-1.
Not going to lie, I wasn't paying attention at this point and I completely missed Fisher's second goal. I wasn't even aware he scored until after the game. However, I'm told it was a drag flick though, fair play to him, 2-2.
The third goal came at a bedford short corner. Oakley saw a slip back to the injector, Adams, in a less than graceful manner, subsequently flicked it into the far side netting.
Bedford went 'ultra defensive' in the last 5 minutes and saw the game out for a 3-2 win. Overall it was a great display of hockey. At times it got a bit hairy but those were just little kinks in the formation regarding marking and setting up the press - something I'm sure will be ironed out over the next few weeks. And credit where it's due, for at least 6 players to step up from the 3s to face a team that, last season, were 2 divisions above them was a perfect example of how competitive sqaud positions will be this season.
