A hard fought win against Cambridge South saw Bedford win, with Luke putting in an excellent display.

Bedford 2s were up against a team who are new to Division 2 South, Cambridge South.

After a draw to Blueharts and a loss to Wapping the weeks before, it was vital we bounced back with a win to get ourselves back on track and into the top half of the table. 12 of our 13 players managed to make it to the meet on time, with the exception of Chitty who turned up 40 minutes late and 1 debit card short of a full wallet. Also, an slight over-estimate in travel time meant we were left with plenty of warm up time and even a chance to play some minceball. Well, that was until captain Steven Adams was feebly intimidated by a bunch of sixth formers staring at the him, wanting to use the basketball court, and so stopped the warm up with 35 minutes to go until push back.

The long gap to push-back left plenty of time to discuss the previous week's performance, and points to improve upon for this game. With the lack of a coach, team talks became group discussions with all players contributing, which has worked surprisingly well!

The game started a bit slowly for us - probably due to the long wait until push-back, which had an affect on our warm up and subsequent start to the game. We dominated the first 10 minutes however, with attack after attack but just lacking that final piece: conversion.

Luke Edwards opened the score sheet with a sublime goal. Picking it up near our own 25, running down the line and racing past 2 or 3 players... he reaches their 25, cuts inside and goes past another 2 players. Once inside the D he casually smashes a reverse stick shot past the keeper's right foot. 1-0.

Bedford stepped off a bit here, and we recognised that at half time, with a lot of the discussions focused on how to keep the game going our way despite the fitness and decision making. However, before that, as the half time whistle went, Bedford won a short corner. Enter: Josh Fisher. He steps up and superbly scores with a drag flick. We're talking one of those beautiful ones that skim the inside of the goal's side netting and glide right round the net - the sweet spot.

With the team talk ironing out a few kinks from the first half, our third goal came just minutes into the second half. Steven Adams picks it up on the 23 and runs it down the left side to the base lane. A reverse stick cross flew through 3 players and reached Luke Edwards running in on the back post who slotted it in.

Cambridge south didn't give up though. They turned up the heat and managed to get one on score board, unfortunate as i'm sure keeper Jon Lord would have loved a clean sheet.

The 4th goal came just minutes before the end to really seal the win. Neil Guess, with an ice hockey style slap on their 23, managed to get the ball to Chitty, who just turned and slotted under his arm and under the keeper.

A fantastic, and much needed, away win. The team worked well together, pre-match, half-time and post-match team talks were constructive discussions about performance... Identifying keys areas where we are strong, as well as areas we need to improve.

MoM: Luke Edwards, quality goal(s) and all-round performance
DoD: Tommy Constant, For hurting his ankle and having a diva fit!

Next match: Letchworth, Home, 4pm.
