Tomorrow will see Bedford Hockey Ladies 1sts host a St Albans side who boast two current GB internationals in one of their biggest home games of the season.

The game carries added significance for many reasons including this being the closest thing to a local derby for the Maroons this season. St Albans have had an unbeaten start in the league with five points - one win and two draws - while Bedford have yet to pick up any points.

However, during pre-season a tight game took place during the Plum Tournament with St Albans winning 2-1. The Tangerines scored two very early goals but Bedford then regained composure and won the second half 1-0 with a breakaway goal. Another competitive match should be on the cards tomorrow.

Over the summer St Albans appointed former Bedford player Hannah MacLeod as their new coach. MacLeod spent a season at the club as a youngster before moving to Leicester where she has since accumulated 77 England and 31 GB caps. Her various international honours include Olympic bronze in 2012.

Other players to look out for include someone who has recently moved in the other direction and now forms a key part of the Bedford attack - Clare Beattie - and St Albans' other big summer signing Ellie Watton, who joined from Beeston and was part of the England squad who won Commonwealth Games silver in Glasgow earlier this year.

For Bedford the match sees milestones for two of the club's younger players with National League home debuts for BGS / TXT Drive academy players Louise Beechener and Kate Axford .

Push back at Chester Road is at 1pm and entrance is free.
