U8's v Leighton Buzzard

It was a cloudy but sunny day and we were at Leighton Buzzard hockey club for a tournament. I was one of the Bedford Lions (Bedford As for short). Our games were brilliant!
The first game we played against Aylesbury B and won! Jess scored a goal. We were pleased to have a very good start and were looking forward to the next match. We played five more group matches and only lost 1 game. I think it was against St Michael’s school. It was a very close game. We won all the other games! My team were great and Helena and I did some great passing just like Claire told us in training – we scored a goal but unluckily it was about 2 seconds after the whistle had gone. Qasim and Alex were a great pair with Qasim defending well and Alex attacking all of the time. Luke defended the goal really well and we hardly let in any goals. Esther played up front most of the time and was really unlucky not to score a goal herself.
I think it was Esther’s mum who brought yummy brownies for us all which I think gave us all a boost!
We did well enough to get into the semi finals and we were overjoyed and screaming with happiness. We played Tring A and it was a really hard match and disappointingly we lost 1-0. We still got to play for the bronze medal though. We played St Michael’s B and it was another close match. We all felt determined to get a medal. We scored a goal and were really excited but St Michael’s didn’t stop trying and at one point they nearly scored but we all ran hard back to defend and Qasim did a great save on the post! The whistle went and we knew we had won Bronze medals. We couldn’t have been more proud of ourselves. We were all pretty tired out too!
We all went home giggling and smiling to ourselves. I cannot wait for the next hockey tournament!
