Founded in 1893, Bedford Hockey Club is proud to be one of the oldest, largest, and most successful field hockey clubs in the region. With a history spanning over 130 years, we continue to thrive as a dynamic, inclusive, and community-focused club, offering hockey for all ages and abilities—from complete beginners to Premier division players.
Our home is the Bedford Sports and Hockey Centre, located in Queen’s Park, Bedford, where matches and training sessions take place on our recently refurbished pitches.
We are one of the largest clubs in the region, fielding:
Our structured training programmes run throughout the week, with weekday evening sessions for adult teams and Sunday morning coaching for juniors. Competitive fixtures are played primarily on Saturdays, with additional matches scheduled on Sundays throughout the season.
Bedford Hockey Club is committed to supporting player development from grassroots to advanced levels. Our junior players benefit from:
Bedfordshire Development Centre (BDC)
A collaborative project offering non-selective, high-quality coaching for U12 to U18 players across the county.
Bedfordshire Schools Hockey League (BSHL)
Relaunched in 2024, this initiative supports inter-school hockey competition at U14, U16, and U18 levels. The league has reconnected over 200 pupils from schools including Redborne, Sharnbrook, Samuel Whitbread, and others.
BHC Allstars
A dedicated U18 girls’ team created to provide match experience for players from schools without hockey provision. A boys’ equivalent is currently in development.
An innovative, low-impact version of the game, Walking Hockey is suitable for individuals of all fitness levels and ages. Sessions regularly include participants from 10 to over 70 years old, including complete beginners, returning players, and those managing long-term health conditions.
This programme has been widely praised for its accessibility and social benefits and has quickly become an integral part of our club offering.
In July 2025, we completed a major refurbishment of our pitches, upgrading to brand new sand-dressed surfaces, complete with new shockpads and matching fencing. This marks a significant milestone for both Bedford Sports and Hockey Centre and Bedford Hockey Club, enhancing our facilities for players, teams, and the wider community.
We will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
