In a pulsating encounter between Bedford 2XI and Sudbury, spectators were treated to an exhilarating back and fourth battle that ended in a hard fought 4-4 draw.
The game burst into life early as Bedford’s Lee Hogget opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a sharp, well taken field goal. However, the lead was short lived and Sudbury responded quickly, levelling the score just 3 minutes later, ensuing an early test of nerves for the home side.
As the first half progressed, Sudbury found their rhythm and struck again just after the half-hour mark to take a 2-1 lead, leaving Bedford chasing the game heading into halftime.
The second half saw Sudbury come out with intent, quickly extending their advantage to 3-1, seemingly putting the game out of reach, Yet Bedford weren’t done. Lee Hogget once again found the net, his second of the game, pulling Bedford back to within a goal and reigniting Bedford’s hope.
Sudbury responded with a goal just before the hour mark, restoring their two-goal cushion at 4-2. But the fight back was far from over. Within a minute, Oscar Jenkins marked his first goal of the season reducing the deficit to 4-3 and shifting momentum firmly back to Bedford.
The drama continued when Arron De Sousa-Butterworth scored his first of the campaign 5 minutes later, levelling the match at 4-4. Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but neither could find a breakthrough, leaving the contest to finish in a thrilling draw.
The boys are on the road again this week as they turn their attention to Brentwood, who are in sublime form. Bedford are still looking to pick up their first win of the season.
