Mens 5s vs Harpenden 3

The Men's 5XI went away to mid-table Harpenden hoping to maintain their good form. The match started with some intense Bedford pressure with a number of chances going begging, James Logan hit the post with a flicked reverse effort that Keith Sohl was agonisingly close to tapping home.

Frustratingly, with 20 minutes on the clock Harpenden got, and dispatched, a well taken short corner.

The half progressed with Harpenden beginning to increase the number of chances they were creating, none of which found the back of the Bedford net thanks to some good last ditch defending. Eventually, Bedford made the break through when a ball into the D from Alex Smallwood found its way through the defence for James Logan to get a touch to put it through the keeper legs. The half ended soon after at 1-1.

The second half began with Bedford applying even more pressure, buoyed by the goal just before half time. An arial ball across the face of the goal was found by Tony Gammon who dispatched it, in mid-air, into the back of the goal. This was followed up by a brilliant run down the right from Elliot Potter who then continued to lift the ball over the goalkeeper, lobbing it into the empty goal.

Now 3-1 to Bedford, Harpenden were restricted to counter attacks as the Bedford team played some impressive, possession based hockey. A rash challenge from David Ross led to the only green card of the game, but it didn't show as a fourth goal was added by Tony Gammon, dispatching it brilliantly passed the keeper.

Harpenden managed to pull one back late in the game, but it proved to not be enough as once again Elliot Potter broke down the right hand side of the pitch, cutting in through multiple defenders before finishing brilliantly with a reverse stick strike.

This brought the game to an end with an excellent 5-2 win for Bedford, leaving them top of the league at this early stage of the season.
