The Mens 5XI had a tense top of the table clash against Hertford 5XI.
Elliot Potter opened the scoring early on after being found at the top of D with all the time in the world to place the ball into the far bottom corner of the goal to continue his rich vein of scoring form. Bedford continued to press in the early stages of the game, the ball falling to Tony Gammon who, as he went to strike the ball, had his stick blocked by a defender. A penalty flick was awarded to Bedford, unfortunately, Tony's well taken flick rebounded back off of the left-hand post.
As the game progressed Hertford created numerous chances, however, their forwards were unable to make any of them pay. At the other end Tony Sawyer had an excellent strike off of a short corner saved impressively by the opposition keeper, who had a remarkable game. Unfortunately, the equaliser came soon after as a lifted shot struck a Bedford defender and was deflected into the back of the net.
The second half continued with high pressure at both ends of the pitch as the two very evenly matched sides continued to press for the winner. Bedford had a series of short corners that came close to making the break through, alas, it wasn't to be as with five minutes left on the clock Hertford capped off a break away by putting the ball passed Alex Brown in goal to seal the three points.
A disappointing last minute defeat for Bedford, but a morale boosting performance none the less to take into next weeks grudge match against Bedford 6XI at Chester Road.
